It was a much anticipated JLL Hotels league final between Patong and Laguna on Sunday 12 May at the ACG. A heavy tropical storm in the morning before the scheduled start time and a weather forecast of rain throughout the day, created doubts as to whether the match would be able to be played. However, patience by the players and officials paid dividends, and after a break in the rain, the match finally got underway albeit in less than ideal conditions which gradually improved throughout the day to allow for a fantastic finals spectacle.

Despite a determined effort, the Village total of 141 all out fell short or the mark with Jabudays chasing it down in just 25 overs to secure a valuable bonus point.

As the Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels league nears the completion of the round robin matches before the finals, teams are still fighting it out for the finals spots. Laguna returned to the ACG, after suffering a comprehensive defeat against league leaders Patong the previous week, hoping to get back on track against the Village, who were also defeated by Patong in their last outing, but made a better fist of it, claiming the two bonus points on offer. The Village once again posted a solid score of 179-9 batting first, however Laguna managed to chase down the total posting 185-4 in the 27th over.

After securing their first win of the season in their last match, the Village were confident of another successful outing against the current league leaders, Patong, who went down in their last match to Jabudays. With only 3 points separating the top 4 teams, a win for the Village, last season’s runners up, would put them back in contention, whereas a win for Patong would advance them one step closer to securing a finals berth. The Village posted a good score of 193 -6 batting first. However, Patong eventually ran out comfortable winners reaching their target scoring 196-7 in the 28th over.

After a thrilling win against Patong last week, Jabudays were looking to continue their good run of form, and take the top of the table spot, against a TNT side that has not lived up to expectations this season. But at the Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) on Sunday 10th March in the JLL Hotels league, TNT finally showed they had what it takes to be a force to be reckoned with. They cruised to an easy victory after bowling Jabudays out for 156 runs and then reaching their target of 157 in the 24th over for the loss of only 3 wickets. Their win now sees them in equal 3rd place in the JLL Hotels League table after match 13.

While the temperature was rising on a hot summer’s day in Phuket, so was the cricketing action at the Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) on Sunday 3rd March in the JLL Hotels league clash between rivals Jabudays and Patong. A win for Patong would see them extend their lead at the top of the table, while Jabudays were looking to bounce back after their recent defeat to Laguna and put themselves in contention for a finals berth. In a thrilling match, the old phrase “it ain’t over till the fat lady sings” seemed very appropriate as the teams slugged it out to secure victory. Ultimately, the Jabudays lads just held on hitting the winning runs with just one wicket in hand and six balls to spare.
